Target boss takes bow after News at Ten appearance

Paul Cubbage toast of the channel following last night's big interview

Target managing director Paul Cubbage is the channel's man of the moment following his appearance on ITV's News at Ten last night.

Cubbage was called on by the national broadcaster to put in his two-penneth in the wake of the latest interest-rate freeze. You can see the full report here.

However - although a great coup, the Yorkshire-based distributor felt its portrayal during the piece wasn't quite on the mark.

In the introduction to the interview, the commentator stated that in thirteen years of trade, Target "have never seen trade so flat" - hardly fair given its bottom line has grown by 40 per cent-plus for the last five years.

Putting on a brave face, Cubbage tweeted today that "no news is bad news", although the distributor has since put out a release reassuring its customers and resellers that it is most definitely a growing business.

"Whilst the general tone of the report was gloomy, the full interview was extremely positive, and stressed how flexible and innovative businesses can thrive in low-demand economic conditions," the statement added.
