HP launches TouchPad compensation scheme

Vendor to reimburse customers who purchased full-price TouchPads

Hardware giant HP is reimbursing end users who purchased its TouchPad tablet devices in the weeks leading up to last month's fire sale.

The vendor shocked the channel in August by axing the TouchPad one month after its release, claiming initial sales of the device had failed to meet expectations.

Shortly afterwards, the vendor slashed the price of the products, which led to the entry-level £399 16GB TouchPad retailing at £89. Meanwhile, prices for the 32GB and 64GB versions were cut to £115 and £159, respectively.

In a post on the vendor's website today, the company confirms that customers who bought one of the doomed tablets for more than the "HP minimum price level" will have the difference refunded.

It adds: "The HP refund programme is our way of saying thank you for choosing HP webOS."

In order to qualify, buyers in the UK and Ireland must have registered their TouchPad webOS account before 23 August.
