ANS improves MK's health with serverectomy

VAR wins big virtualised infrastructure deal with Primary Care Trust

VAR ANS Group has won a major infrastructure refresh contract with Milton Keynes Primary Care Trust (MK PCT) and aims to reduce the organisation's physical server estate by about 85 per cent.

The Cisco, NetApp and VMware partner claims it can save the Trust £234,000 over the next five years. Manchester-based ANS will implement VMware technology and plans to trim MK PCT's number of hardware servers from 46 to seven.

Cisco UCS kit will be implemented at the Trust's main site, while existing servers will be put to use in a disaster recovery capacity at a satellite location. Mark Pinner, IT network and technical manager at MK PCT, claimed the project will help the Trust meet its green objectives.

"ANS' solution sees our IT spend reduced and the benefits that we get from the estate increased," he added.
