Avaya secures Sipera buyout

Comms vendor acquires UC security-focused technology partner

Avaya has snapped up unified communications (UC) security outfit Sipera for an undisclosed sum.

The Texan firm is to be fully integrated into the operations of the New Jersey-based comms vendor.

Alan Baratz, Avaya's president of global communications solutions, said: "Sipera's broad portfolio of open, enterprise-focused security technologies strongly aligns with our own Avaya Aura unified communications architecture."

Sipera, which specialises in session border controller technology, has been increasingly visible in the European channel in the past few years. In 2009 former Westcon exec Bernie Dodwell joined the vendor as EMEA channel chief. The following year, Wick Hill was added to Sipera's UK distribution fold.

Sipera's chief operating officer Jim Timmer said: "Integration of our solutions with Avaya Aura is a significant milestone in the evolution of unified communications. With the combined offerings, users enjoy rich, responsive communication experiences that span multiple channels, applications, devices and networks."
