VMware confirms departure of UK boss
Northern European VP Matthew Piercey takes reins on interim basis following exit of Mark Newton
VMware's UK and Ireland head Mark Newton has left the virtualisation vendor after two years in the role, ChannelWeb has learnt.
In a statement, VMware confirmed Newton's departure, adding that vice president for northern Europe Matthew Piercey has been drafted in as acting UK and Ireland head until a suitable replacement is found.
Newton (pictured) joined the virtualisation kingpin as UK and Ireland regional director in November 2009. He had previously served stints at IBS, BMC and Oracle.
"We can confirm that Mark Newton, UK and Ireland regional director, is no longer at VMware," the firm stated.
"We thank Mark for his professionalism and leadership over the past two years, and wish him well in his endeavours."
Paul Sweeney, managing director of VMware partner ANS, said: "It's disappointing to hear Mark is moving on as we had spent a lot of time building a good relationship with him."
VMware, which kicks off its VMworld summit next week, stressed that Piercey is based in the UK offices in Frimley.
