Palo Alto enlists Avnet as second UK distributor

Insiders suggest next-generation firewall vendor has finalised deal with distribution giant

Network security vendor Palo Alto Networks is in the process of appointing Avnet as its second UK distributor, ChannelWeb understands.

Since touching down in the UK in 2009, the fast-growing next-generation firewall specialist has worked exclusively through niche distributor VADition.

According to insiders, a contract with goliath distributor Avnet has now been finalised, although neither party would comment.

Founded in 2005, Palo Alto recently revealed its bookings run rate now stands at more than $200m (£125m). It currently draws 60 per cent of sales from its native US and UK resellers include Synetix, Nebulas, Khipu and Pentura.

Andrew Brimson, managing director of Khipu, said: "With growth of the Palo Alto business it is perhaps time to broaden the distribution base and the appointment of Avnet is a positive step. Khipu works with both distributors and we are very happy with both of them."

Bruce Hockin, head of business strategy at Avnet, said: "It is Avnet policy not to comment on speculation. What I can confirm is that Avnet Technology Solutions UK consistently reviews the market to identify new opportunities for its partners."
