Adobe to shed 750 staff
Software vendor to decrease investment in certain enterprise products
Adobe is to shed one in 12 staff as it reshapes its business to focus on digital media and digital marketing.
In an announcement last night, the vendor said it will decrease its investment in certain enterprise solution product lines as it doubles down investment in these two "explosive growth categories".
The restructure will result in 750 job losses, primarily in North America and Europe, leading Adobe to take a pre-tax restructuring charge of up to $78m (£49m) in its current quarter.
Mark Garrett, Adobe executive vice president, said: "We believe that by focusing resources on two large initiatives and shifting our business model, we can drive faster and more predictable growth in FY2013 and beyond."
The changes will reduce Adobe's full-year 2012 growth by four to five percentage points, the vendor said.
Adobe's digital media growth strategy evolves around its recently announced Creative Cloud, the firm said. It already claims to be the industry leader in content authoring solutions.
In digital marketing, Adobe said it intended to be the leader in solutions to manage, measure and optimise digital marketing and advertising.
"Moving into FY2012, Adobe will focus its research and development and sales and marketing investments on these two opportunities," Adobe said.
