Dell ditches Streak tablet in US
Hardware giant declines to comment on what move means for future of device in UK
A question mark hangs over the future of Dell's Streak 7 tablet PC, after it emerged that the device has been quietly canned in the US.
The seven-inch Android tablet has been withdrawn from the hardware giant's online shop in the US, but is still available to buy via its UK outlet.
The product listing on the Dell US site confirmed: "Unfortunately the Streak 7 is no longer available for sale."
The Streak 7 is not the first tablet Dell has axed this year in the US, as the firm ditched its five-inch version of the form factor back in August. It is also no longer available to buy from Dell directly in the UK.
In a statement to ChannelWeb, Dell declined to comment on whether the device could face a similar fate in the UK, but stressed it "remains committed to the mobility market and continues to sell products here and in the other parts of the world."
As an example, the firm explained that it launched a 10-inch Windows 7-powered tablet in November, aimed specifically at users in the education, finance and healthcare markets.
The vendor would not be the first hardware giant to withdraw from the tablet market this year, after HP killed off its Touchpad device within a month of it going on sale.
