Insight gears up for Mancunian expansion

Corporate reseller on recruitment drive after moving into new digs in Salford

Insight UK plans to grow its new Salford base to rival the size of its two main offices in London and Sheffield.

The corporate reseller has relocated its Greater Manchester office from Trafford Park to Salford Keys in a move that will enable it to double local headcount.

Both Jon Lang, who recently joined Insight to head up its public sector business, and Steve Browell, who helms the firm's services activities, are based there.

President of EMEA Stuart Fenton (pictured) told ChannelWeb: "There is no doubt in my mind that – following the significant upgrade in the quality of our leadership in Manchester – we will expand [the] Manchester [office] over time to be a similar size to London and Sheffield."

Insight's 85-strong Mancunian operations are currently dwarfed by those in London and Sheffield, which employ about 860 staff between them.

Fenton said the new "high-tech" office would enable the firm to almost double local headcount, with recruitment activities focusing on its public sector, services and mid-market businesses.

"The new office has a capacity of 161, which we expect to fill reasonably quickly and therefore it is likely we will take more space in the future," Fenton explained.

"Manchester is an excellent city with great talent and support from local government."

Lang was quoted in the Manchester Evening News as saying Insight will target graduates from the region's universities to help ramp up headcount.

"The opening of our new office underlines Insight's support and our ongoing commitment to our public sector civil service, government and health service clients," he said.

"Insight's presence in Manchester will be mutually beneficial, as we will be able to recruit from the excellent skills base created by academia and the thriving digital economy – at the same time, it will give Manchester's IT workers a vital lead in one of the fastest growth markets in technology: cloud computing."
