Wick Hill locks down mobile security deal with Imation

Distributor follows up German success with UK-wide deal

Wick Hill has been handed UK distribution rights to Imation's mobile security portfolio, covering the vendor's MXI, IronKey and Defender brands.

The firm already distributes the products in Germany, and said the deal means its UK VARs will now be able to tap into the burgeoning mobile data security market.

Wick Hill chairman Ian Kilpatrick said the deal will not encroach on Imation's other distribution partnerships.

"There is a route to market for volume, consumer products and Imation has a wide portfolio," he said. "However, we were appointed for our security focus and we are the sole distributor, at the security end, for MXI Stealth Zone and IronKey's PC on a Stick products."

Nick Banks, vice president for EMEA and APAC at Imation Mobile Security, said Wick Hill's appointment will form part of the firm's three-year growth plan.

"Our channel partners will play an instrumental role in this expansion," he added. "I look forward to working side by side with Wick Hill and its channel partners and I am excited by the potential of this untapped global market."

At the back end of last year Imation launched a partner programme specifically focused on its mobile security wares. Wick Hill's Kilpatrick claimed the vendor's acquisitions of MXI and IronKey last year spoke to its intent "to drive hard into this area" over the coming months.

"It is a high-growth area," he added. "Security is a key focus for Imation and we will be working with them as they drive to take market share."
