Former Acer UK boss bounces back

Bobby Watkins signs first client for his vendor consultancy business

Former Acer UK boss Bobby Watkins (pictured) has popped back up in the channel with a new "brand ambassador" business for new or emerging vendors.

His consultancy has already signed its first client, Gemini Devices, a Chinese manufacturer that has recently branched out with its own brand of tablets and sat navs.

Watkins – who left Acer of his own accord last year – said the aim is to work with other IT and consumer electronics brands either new to, or struggling to gain traction in, the UK or overseas.

"I have spent 15 years working with Sony and Acer and have learned a lot about how to remove the barriers brands face. I will give them advice and will also work with them to make it a success," he said.

Watkins argued the recession can provide the perfect backdrop for innovation in the industry.

"Out of tough market conditions tend to be born new innovations and it is the perfect time for new brands to come to market," he added.
