CDG dangles lifeline for stranded Expand customers
Distributor says customers not keen on migrating to Riverbed need not panic
Distributor CDG is launching a support life raft for UK customers of Expand Networks left in the lurch by the fallen vendor's acquisition by Riverbed.
After buying Expand's intellectual property this week, Riverbed has made it clear it will offer only minimal support to customers who do not swiftly invest in its own technology.
But CDG director Oren Taylor said Expand customers need not panic.
"We are working with some of the other vendors so that for the cost of the old Expand support we can slowly transition them on to new technology," he said.
"Riverbed's tactic is to take all the customers and migrate them to Riverbed. There is a reason these customers chose Expand over Riverbed as there are some differences in the technology."
CDG worked as an Expand distributor until last summer but has retained links with about 40 of its customers, mainly in the telecoms, military and charity sectors.
"Riverbed will be rubbing its hands with glee but what has this deal given Expand really? They have not been able to pay off their liabilities and have given away all their crown jewels. It is a waste," added Taylor.
