Industry bodies team up on new badge for storage pros

CompTIA and SNIA unveil what they hope will become the gold standard for data storage professionals

CompTIA and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) have teamed up to create a new certification designed to allow storage pros to keep pace with their rapidly changing industry.

The two industry bodies claim the CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA qualification will come to be recognised as the industry standard badge for data storage managers. The exam will focus on areas including storage systems configuration and integration, business continuity and service levels.

It is recommended that those considering sitting the exam have at least a year's practical experience. Storage+ is designed for data storage or system administrators, IT architects, network engineers, pre-sales staff and cloud services managers.

Terry Erdle, CompTIA's executive vice president of skills development, said: "The rise in mobile computing, the shift to cloud-enabled services, a need for heightened security and a host of other factors add to the complexity of this environment, which can challenge even the most seasoned IT storage pro."

Wayne Adams, chairman of SNIA, added: "We are encouraging our thousands of SNIA credential holders to take the new certification exam to demonstrate that they are contemporary with state-of-the-art data storage technologies, techniques and common practices."
