Ingram swaps CEO Spierkel for Monie

Distributor's leader departs after seven years in the hot seat to be replaced by COO Alain Monie

Ingram Micro operations chief Alain Monie today ascends to the chief executive position, with incumbent Greg Spierkel to depart the distributor.

Monie joined the California-based outfit as vice president nine years ago, and has served as head of its Asia-Pacific business and as chief operating officer, a role he assumed in 2007. In 2010 he left the company to take a post as boss of paper specialist April Management Pte, but returned to his previous role at Ingram in November.

Prior to joining the distributor, 61-year-old Monie worked at companies including Honeywell International and Allied Signal. He also sits on the board of online retail behemoth Amazon.

"Ingram Micro has a solid strategy with a strong management team," said Monie. "We will continue to execute this strategy. I look forward to leading the team toward delivering on our key initiatives, while providing best-in-class performance for our customers, vendors and shareholders."

Spierkel will stay on to ensure a smooth handover, but will depart Ingram on 15 April. He has been with the distributor for 15 years, holding posts including president of EMEA. He has held the top spot since June 2005.

"I am confident the company is in capable and experienced hands," he said. "After serving as CEO for more than six years, it is the right time to leave and spend more time with my family."
