Tablet newcomer Gemini signs Widget as sole UK distie

Former Acer UK boss Bobby Watkins throws weight behind launch of new tablet maker as Hertfordshire distributor signs up

Tablet market newcomer Gemini Devices has signed up Widget as its sole distribution partner in the UK.

The vendor, which produces 7in, 8in and 10in tablets under the Gemini and JoyTab brands, launched in the UK earlier this month. The firm, which runs manufacturing operations out of China and has offices in the West Midlands, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, also sells satnavs, 5in media players and accessories.

Its UK expansion is being backed by former Acer UK boss Bobby Watkins, who now runs "brand ambassador" consultancy www.bobbywatkins.co.uk.

"We wanted a nimble and dynamic distributor that was able to support our collaborations in the consumer channel," said Watkins (pictured). "With initiatives such as their trade app and their approach to servicing logistics, sales and marketing needs, Widget is the perfect partner."

Product will be available from the Stevenage-based distributor from the beginning of next month.

‘We believe that in tough market conditions, new brands and ideas will be born," said Widget managing director Dave Elder. "We are always looking for inspiring new products to add to our portfolio and are therefore passionate about developing our business partnership with Gemini Devices and exploring the full potential of their ambition."
