Eight selected for new Janet cloud framework
Brand new framework is first of its kind to encompass colocation and cloud services, organisation claims
Education network Janet has unveiled its first cloud infrastructure framework with eight selected suppliers making the cut.
Only two IT suppliers – Eduserve and Liberata – had been named as this article went to press. Other supplier contracts were in the process of being signed.
The framework is offering colocation through to cloud infrastructure services, which will be available to every organisation with a Janet network connection.
In conjunction with the recently formed Janet Brokerage service, the organisation claims it will drive the use of cloud computing across the UK, as well as saving time and money.
Janet Brokerage said it is already in discussions with a number of universities and other public sector bodies keen to use the framework.
Dan Perry, head of strategic business at Janet, said: “We’ve managed to establish a framework that is agile enough for everyone on the Janet network, in a remarkably short space of time. Institutions are queuing up to use it, with our support, to help them move to cloud computing and datacentres.”
