Government shakes up suppliers on £1bn print framework

XMA and Xerox win big, while Ricoh, Danwood and Altodigital sidelined as suppliers confirmed for MFD and services deal, ChannelWeb learns

Resellers Altodigital and Danwood and vendor Ricoh have missed out on the juiciest lots on a new £1bn-plus printing and services framework, while Xerox and XMA have emerged as big winners.

ChannelWeb has learned suppliers have been picked on all four lots of the framework, which is managed by the Government Procurement Service and was unveiled in November. Its total worth is estimated at up to £904m, plus VAT, and all suppliers are contracted for two years, with two one-year extensions available after that. A full breakdown of the suppliers and terms of all lots is included at the bottom of this story.

The first lot covers a small number of specs on pre-configured multifunctional devices (MFDs), as well as maintenance, support and managed print services (MPS). Xerox has been chosen as the sole supplier for this lot, the worth of which is estimated as being between £150m and £190m. Onlookers indicate this lot will apply primarily to smaller users with largely transactional needs, such as schools and doctors' surgeries.

The second lot, worth between £440m and £570m, covers a far wider range of devices and somewhat bigger and more complex MPS offerings. The four firms picked for this lot are Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta and XMA.

This lot corresponds most closely to the existing RM450 managed print framework, which expired last week after three years in effect. Altodigital, Danwood and Ricoh were all among the eight named suppliers on the outgoing contract, alongside Xerox, Konica Minolta, Canon and their subsidiaries.

Lot three covers much larger outsourcing of MPS and will be worth between £110m and £140m to Xerox, HP, Canon and Konica Minolta. The projects covered by this lot will invariably involve an onsite employee presence, with staff possibly transferred to government bodies under TUPE regulations.

Altodigital, Danwood and Ricoh have all found a home a lot four, which covers print audits and consultancy, largely to public sector clients buying off lots two and three. This lot will be worth around £4m.
