Trams clears up Cancom closure rumours
Apple reseller's new owner to gun for growth by focusing on Cancom's B2B success
The new owner of Apple Premium Reseller (APR) Cancom has reinforced its commitment to the brand's B2B and education business following the temporary closure of its retail outlets.
The APR was acquired by London and Dorset-based reseller Trams for an undisclosed sum at the end of last week. Since then, all three of Cancom's stores have temporarily ceased trading.
Speaking to ChannelWeb, Warren Peel, managing director of Trams, said the firm started a 30-day consultation with Cancom's retail staff on Friday.
"The stores are closed and will remain closed as we carry out this consultation," said Peel. "But we do not want people to think that just because we have closed three stores, that is the end of Cancom. Because it is not."
Looking ahead, Peel said Trams will look to capitalise on Cancom's strengths in the B2B and education markets, and the enduring appeal of the Apple iPad in the enterprise market.
"As part of the consultation process, we will look to find opportunities for [Cancom's retail staff] in the B2B side of the business, because we want to retain the best people," he added.
He also said the firm has also not ruled out making further acquisitions as other VARs appear on the company's radar.
"I would like to make it very clear that we [Cancom] are staying in the B2B space because that is where the future of the business lies," he added.
