Microsoft plies OEM partners with shiny new tools
System builders handed new support and installation freebies
Microsoft has unveiled two tools designed to improve support and speed of installation for its OEM partners, respectively.
First up, Microsoft has begun offering OEM partners free text-based pre-sales and technical support through its OEM Reseller Support System.
The tool can be used to engage with Microsoft support engineers and interact with peers.
Meanwhile, the software giant has lifted the veil on its Express Deployment Tool (EDT), which is a free download designed to accelerate the process of pre-installing Microsoft software.
EDT replaces the traditional installation methods for the likes of Windows Client, Windows Server and Microsoft Office. It also helps system builder partners stay current on software updates and automatically flags up when an update is available so the PC image they install is always up to date with the latest versions or patches, Microsoft said.
Microsoft moved recently to cull the number of distributors that carry its OEM software globally. This resulted in Avnet and Northamber losing the rights to sell the products in the UK. This leaves Computer 2000, Entatech, Ingram Micro, Micro-P, VIP Computers and Westcoast on board.
