Thales signed to supply public services connectivity

Security specialist will be linchpin in government Public Services Network

Thales has been formally announced as a framework supplier of connectivity services to the government's Public Services Network (PSN).

According to a statement from the multinational network security and cyber-security technology provider, its UK arm will provide secure network connections and services to the UK government, local government and several national infrastructure providers.

Phil Naybour, head of the security business at Thales UK, said the company's fully operational data storage facility in Doncaster has already gained accreditation for data storage up to IL2 and is securing data up to an IL5 security grading.

"The PSN will deliver cost-effective, secure networks to the UK government and critical national infrastructure," he said.

PSN is intended to be an umbrella network for the public sector's networking needs, with a view to gaining economies of scale across various agencies around voice and data procurement, as part of the government's vision for shared services and reduced cost.
