Frazer vacates Microsoft UK hotseat after six years

Michel van der Bel named as replacement in China-UK exchange

Gordon Frazer is ending his six-year stint as Microsoft UK managing director to take up a role within the software giant's Chinese business.

Sixteen-year Microsoft veteran Frazer (pictured) has been named as chief operating officer for Microsoft Greater China Region (GCR), which encompasses China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

In a straight swap, Microsoft's current GCR chief operating officer, Michel van der Bel, is travelling west to fill the UK managing director role vacated by Frazer.

Microsoft today announced a series of other management changes designed to add more wood to its business in China, where it has been present for 20 years.

Jean-Philippe Courtois, president of Microsoft International, said: "These changes reflect a deep commitment to both the region and to creating new opportunities and challenges for our most talented people."

In his 13 years at Microsoft, van der Bel has also served stints as vice president of public sector for Microsoft International – which encompasses all operations outside North America – and general manager of the Netherlands.

Courtois said van der Bel brings proven expertise in building strong teams, as well as sales, marketing and services excellence.

"I am incredibly optimistic about the deep expertise, discipline and energy Michel will bring to Microsoft UK," he added.
