Asus and Philips LCD sales surge despite shrinking market

Category's revenue in western Europe fell 13 per cent in Q1 but two vendors buck trend

Sales of Asus and Philips LCDs in Q1 2012 across western Europe grew 50 per cent and 30 per cent respectively year on year in revenue terms, according to Context's distribution panel for the period.

"Asus and Philips are among the few vendors to have shown strong gains in the LCD market," Context said in an online note.

The market research firm found that the strongest sales for these brands were in Italy. Asus and Philips leaped up the ranks to second and third position, behind Samsung, although the Italian LCD market overall shrank 10 per cent in the quarter, compared with the first quarter of 2011.

"Overall, revenue in the LCD market for western Europe distribution fell 13 per cent year on year. Poor sales in Germany, the region's largest economy, were the foremost factor," said Context in its note.
