Enterasys slams "costly and complex" BYOD projects
Networking vendor claims its new purpose-built Mobile IAM solution is a no-brainer for resellers looking to crack BYOD market
Resellers have so far largely failed to capitalise on BYOD because customers have been put off by the cost and complexity of deployments, according to Enterasys.
The networking vendor took a potshot at market giant Cisco as it launched its Mobile IAM solution, which it claims allows resellers to deploy 3,000 BYOD devices in ten days for just $23,995, or £15,000. It is available to resellers from 1 June.
Enterasys said an equivalent three-year BYOD solution for 800 users and 3,000 devices from Cisco would cost $122,000 (based on a three-year advanced subscription to Cisco Identity Services engine and associated base software, appliance and prime infrastructure costs).
Ram Appalaraju, vice president of marketing at Enterasys, told ChannelWeb that Enterasys wants to be a "destructive innovator" in a BYOD market set to be worth £2bn to the channel over the next five years.
"Our competitors solve the problem using multiple products that need to be integrated at the customer site," he said. "Those products weren't invented for BYOD issues whereas our appliance is purpose built for BYOD."
Appalaraju said Mobile IAM should be pitched at education, retail or healthcare clients, or "anywhere were a network is highly necessary, delivering user experience is of paramount importance and there is a high degree of personal devices being brought in."
The service wrap can be delivered either by Enterasys or the partner, he added. Resellers can also add monitoring and management services.
