Bridgeway and Vioptim in security VAR union

Duo joins forces after working together on half a dozen implementations

Bridgeway Security and Vioptim have vowed to plug the gaps left by more established rivals after becoming the latest security VARs to tie the knot.

Cambridgeshire-based Bridgeway and Falkirk-based Vioptim had worked together on half a dozen client implementations before their decision to merge.

Vioptim managing director John Howell becomes a director of the combined entity, which has taken the Bridgeway name and has a dozen staff. Bridgeway founder Jason Holloway continues in the post of chief executive.

Talking to ChannelWeb, Holloway said the firm would continue to focus on addressing the holes that are appearing in end-user defences as they become more mobile and flexible. This includes management and support of mobile devices, working with vendors such as Mobile Iron.

"We do not compete so much on the technology solutions organisations already have – you will not find us quoting for AV renewals," said Holloway. "We are looking for the missing elements that have not already been considered and that are required for the customer's mobility and agility."

While Vioptim was founded three years ago, Holloway established Bridgeway in April 2011 after leaving his position at vendor Sandisk. Before the merger, the firm had already racked up seven NHS clients.

Vioptim focused primarily on security-as-a-service, working with vendors including ScanSafe and Mimecast. "We have a similar vision of where the market is at and where we are able to help existing and prospective customers," said Holloway.

He added that the goal is to work alongside the existing suppliers of mid to large customers.

"We will not be displacing any Computacenters, Insights or Miscos," he said. "In most engagements we are not the sole supplier but we are still finding opportunities in those large accounts that the incumbent cannot cover."
