Portal account directors ride both ways for charity

Two account directors at IT consultancy Portal have returned exhausted from riding the 100-mile South Downs Way twice in one day to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Simon Welch and Jon Bradshaw (pictured, above, fixing a puncture near Lewes) rode the cross-country route from Winchester to Eastbourne on 17 May.

According to Bradshaw, more people have climbed Everest than have done the South Downs Way in both directions in one go.

"Our aim is to raise at least £8,848, as this is - in metres - the height of Everest and also the total height of the climbs that we will have done by the time we arrive back in Winchester," he said.

The pair is urging people to give anything they can, no matter how small. Berkshire-based Portal also gave its employees equipment for the ride, which the duo plans to auction off to raise additional funds.
