Vendor appoints new CEO as it guns for smartphone rivals
Samsung has rejigged its management team and appointed a new chief executive as it gears up for aggressive growth.
Kwon Oh-hyun, currently head of the firm’s components business, will take over from Choi Gee-sung as chief executive, a story on Reuters revealed today.
Gee-sung, who has been CEO since January 2010, is moving to a new role as head of group corporate strategy to focus on future growth.
Jay Lee, the son of Samsung Electronics’ chairman Lee Kun-hee, will remain as chief operating officer, the firm said.
Last month, Samsung topped the global smartphone tables for the first time, clambering over Apple and ousting Nokia from the global top spot for the first time.
