Commtech on the hunt for vendors

Distributor signs flash vendor Violin

VAD Commtech has signed its fourth UK vendor in the form of Violin.

The distributor, which also works with vendors Silver Peak, Tintree and Emulex, hopes to sign an additional three or four vendors over the next few months, focusing on the enterprise infrastructure space.

Ireland-based Commtech, which launched in the UK in March, has already signed up 12 resellers to sell Violin's flash memory array and will join the vendor's distribution line-up alongside Azlan.

Mark Walker, Commtech's country manager, believes there is still room for more distributors in the UK channel.

He said: "Focus is so important and we have no aspiration to be a big broadline generalist at all.

"We are in conversation with some vendors and we want to make sure we have a coherent and complementary portfolio. Soon, we will have enough to enable us to hit the sort of financial goals we want to hit."

Garry Veale, Violin's managing director in EMEA, said: "Commtech understands how Violin can enable its users to get a better experience.

"With Violin, customers can lengthen the useful life of applications and drastically shrink their back-end infrastructure, thereby reducing both opex and capex [expenditure]."
