Wick Hill signs Zenprise for MDM success

Distributor dives into market set to be worth $500m by the end of 2012

Wick Hill has added Zenprise to its vendor stable to take advantage of the green field opportunity of mobile device management (MDM).

The technology, whose industry Gartner predicts will exceed $500m (£320m) by the end of this year, will be offered to larger resellers initially, with the duo looking to recruit about 20 resellers in total.

According to Cisco's Service Adoption Forecast, the number of mobile connected devices will rise from 10.3 billion in 2011 to 18.9 billion by 2016. Wick Hill chairman Ian Kilpatrick believes this figure means the market is ripe for the channel to exploit.

He said: "The market is huge for MDM as there is phenomenal growth in smartphone and tablet use, and this is a big area for VARs to tap into."

The technology provided by the Silicon Valley-based vendor works as both a cloud and on-premise solution, and was chosen for its adaptability, according to Kilpatrick.

He said MDM represents a "monstrous" green field opportunity for the channel.

"We investigated our options for a long time. Some of the other MDM organisations had a very narrow vision and only covered a few devices or directions," he said.

"Zenprise's ability to deliver its products in channel-sized packages appealed to us. There was a range of delivery structures so the channel can deliver it through the cloud or through servers."
