Avnet begins cycle of events for charity
Bracknell the scene for a year of fundraising activity
Avnet set a few wheels spinning for youth employment charity Amber recently in a cycle-to-work fundraising day.
Pictured, left to right, are Avnet's account manager Leon Conway; vice president and country manager for UK and Ireland John Toal; and Mark Balding, client executive for Avnet at IBM, on the day they rode 55 miles, sponsored by Barracuda Networks, in early July.
A further team of five from Avnet rode 25 miles on the day, around hills in the Haslingden area, according to the distributor. The team aims to raise a total of £25,000 for Amber over a 12-month period, which will also include cake sales and other activities with a view to involving partners as well as staff.
Toal said the Cycle to Work Day was a fantastic way to start its fundraising efforts. "It was great to see a number of employees who share a passion for cycling enter into the spirit of the day. We chose to support Amber after careful consideration because the development of young adults will play an important part in the future success of the UK economy," he added.
Amber helps unemployed and disadvantaged young people find work, providing assistance with their CVs and interviews, and also teaches other skills aimed at developing their independence.
