Fujitsu: Now is the time for VDI

Vendor hopes to recruit partners with VDI rebate programme

Fujitsu has ramped up its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) offering in the hope of recruiting more channel partners.

The vendor, which already has about 1,000 channel partners, hopes to lure in resellers with a 10 per cent rebate proposition on its thin-client technology, which it says will drive up VARs' margins.

The rebate structure allows for increasing partner margins depending on the level of commitment shown and sales recorded.

The thin-client VDI technology, including a Microsoft HyperV-based solution and a VMware offering, allows virtualised devices to be controlled centrally and remotely. Up to 40 users can make use of the offerings, with the capability to expand to 250 virtual clients.

Craig Parker, head of product marketing at Fujitsu, said VDI has played second fiddle to the virtualisation of datacentres until now.

He added: "Now is the time for VDI. In the past, VARs have made a lot of savings by virtualising central datacentres, and have thought they will just get around to VDI.

"We have been going through the classic technology hype cycle, and now datacentre virtualisation has taken off, people are seeing the benefits of VDI."
