Computacenter CEO carries Olympic flame

Mike Norris given honour of bearing torch through north London as it enters final leg of its journey

Computacenter chief executive Mike Norris was this week one of the chosen few to carry the Olympic torch through the streets of London on its final journey to the Olympic stadium in Stratford.

Norris (pictured) ran with the torch through the streets of Tottenham on Wednesday evening. He can be seen lighting his torch in the picture below.

The flame arrived in London a week ago in spectacular fashion, as Royal Marine Commando Martyn Williams abseiled from a helicopter onto the Tower of London.

Since then it has wound its way all over the capital and travelled by all the city's most iconic landmarks. It has been wielded by stars of showbusiness, sport and politics including Bruce Forsyth, Dizzee Rascal, Fabrice Muamba and Ban Ki-moon.

The flame was carried through Hampton Court Palace this morning before travelling down the Thames on royal row barge Gloriana. It is due to arrive at Tower Bridge at 12.45pm and will spend the afternoon at nearby City Hall before commencing its final journey towards the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

The flame will be used to light the cauldron during tonight's opening ceremony, which takes place between 9pm and about 12.30am.

Norris has been with Computacenter since joining the firm as a graduate salesperson in 1984. After an impressive rise through the ranks, he was appointed as chief executive a decade later. Under his stewardship the firm has become the UK's largest VAR and IT services house, with 2011 turnover standing at more than £2.8bn.
