Birbeck stands down as Equanet chief
CRN understands he is set to take over top spot at Dixons Retail-owned PIXmania
Phil Birbeck has stood down as managing director of DSG Business and is taking over the helm of Dixons Retail-owned PIXmania, CRN understands.
It is understood that an email was sent to all Equanet staff today from Dixons Retail chief executive Sebastian James informing them of the situation.
The move coincides with a recent Dixons Retail announcement that it has taken complete ownership of France-based e-tailer PIXmania for €10m (£7.8m), after already acquiring 77 per cent of the company at an earlier date.
PIXmania forms the basis of Dixons’ digital operations, operating in 26 countries, and has 17 stores across Europe including in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
CRN also understands that Felix Stauber has been installed as interim managing director of Equanet.
Birbeck (pictured) was brought into Equanet as managing director in 2010 to drive organic growth and acquire new customers.
He has worked for Dixons group since 1989, including a stint as managing director of PC City in Spain before returning to the UK to become DSG Business managing director in 2010, taking control of PC World Business and Equanet.
CRN is currently awaiting a statement from Dixons and Equanet.
