Emulex hopes deals will lure in competitors' VARs

Vendor offers cashback and margin enhancement to attract resellers as they move from 4GB to 8GB fibre channel products

Storage vendor Emulex is on the prowl to poach resellers from its competitors with the launch of a promotional scheme for its fibre channel and switching products.

The US-headquartered outfit is offering a $100 (£64) discount on its LightPulse 8GFC adapter, as well as the chance to improve margins with a 50 per cent discount offer on the first three 10GbE switches sold to new Emulex customers.

A 15 per cent discount on every Emulex OneConnect 10GbE product sold with Cisco Nexus or specific Juniper switches is also offered as part of the deal, which runs with immediate effect until 30 September.

The vendor, whose competitors in the fibre channel market include Brocade and QLogic, said the offers are aimed at enticing resellers working with other vendors to switch to Emulex during their transition period.

Craig Skelton, channel sales director at Emulex UK, said: "We are encouraging those selling our competitors' 4GB [fibre channel] products to look to start selling Emulex. When they reach their transition point [to 8GB], that is when they may look to see what else is out there, and now is the time to look at Emulex and see if the product is for them.

"The promotion is aimed at getting users in touch with the latest technology. We are encouraging resellers who are migrating from 4GB to join us on our 8GB products."

The vendor, which has a UK base in Wokingham, hopes the promotion will attract more resellers to join its base of about 100 active UK VARs.
