JMC team breaks activity barrier to help Manchester hospitals

Salford reseller JMC IT is celebrating the results of an Olympian staff effort to raise funds for a charity called MedEquip4Kids, which aims to help purchase paediatric care equipment for Manchester hospitals and community health organisations.

In the challenge, staff were given the chance to cycle, run, walk or row a total 2,012km during the Olympic Games period, pledging 75p per kilometre to MedEquip4Kids. All together, the JMC IT team travelled 2,298km.

The three biggest achievers were (pictured with their 'medals', LtR) JMC IT's operations administrator Nikki Johnston, developer Dan Wood and contracts administrator Jes Kay.

Wood took 'Gold' by walking, running, cycling or rowing 509.5km, Kay the 'Silver' by achieving 274.5km, and Johnston the 'Bronze' by going 245.5km .

In total, some £3,810 was donated to the charity, with the Olympic challenge funds being added to a Team JMC Fun Day in July, where 200 staff, their friends and family engaged in a range of activities to raise money. Next year, the reseller hopes to increase the total raised to £8,000, the company said in a statement.

Andrew Burgess, managing director of JMC IT, said the whole team was inspired by and committed to the cause, with heart-warming results.

"Our team became very competitive, vying for a spot in the medals ceremony by cycling, running and walking to or from work, then hopping on exercise machines during their lunch breaks to clock up as many kilometres as possible," Burgess confirmed. "We may even have to raise our target! For our next big fundraiser, we are looking for a record to smash and really set the team a big challenge."
