VMware signs up as summer sizzler boosts EuroCloud membership
Cloud industry body adds 15 new members in past eight weeks
Industry body EuroCloud has added 15 new members to its roster this summer, including industry giant VMware.
The organisation already counts vendor behemoths including Citrix, EMC, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle among its members, and claims that its recent recruitment spurt defies the widely held assumption that the summer months are quiet ones for the channel.
The new members to have declared their affiliation in the past eight weeks are Adpoints, CloudApps, CloudSense, Fusion Experience, Infosec Technologies, Interoute, Kimble, Mail Distiller, MessageSolution, Newgrove Consulting, PerspecSys, SaaSInsure, SMEStorage, The York Group and VMware.
Ian Moyse, EuroCloud board director and sales director at member company Workbooks, said: "As cloud continues to be over-hyped and over-marketed, it becomes ever more important to deliver clarity, advice and resources to those in the cloud space to enable a sanitised baseline to prevail. EuroCloud gives cloud-committed companies an educated voice and a place to collaborate, learn and contribute to this lively sector of IT."
EuroCloud is one of a number of cloud-focused industry bodies to come into being in recent years, with others including the Cloud Industry Forum, the Cloud Alliance and the Cloud Security Alliance. EuroCloud exists to increase awareness of cloud computing, to build relationships with policy makers and to further the implementation of best practice by creating a knowledge-sharing network.
"The regular meetings, conferences, materials and brand demonstrate those who are truly committed to understanding and taking part in the cloud world," added Moyse. "As the membership grows, so does the value, and I believe we will see a continued growth of such members through the rest of the year as cloud companies look to gain competitive advantage in every way they can."
