Cloud firms join forces to form Cloud Advisory Council

Industry body aims to promote best practice within the cloud

A group of IT vendors has joined together to form the Cloud Advisory Council (CAC), which aims to influence the direction of the cloud industry.

The non-profit organisation, based in California, intends to publicise cloud best practice and already has 16 members, including AMD and Check Point.

The CAC, which launched yesterday at VMworld in San Francisco, is open to ISVs, OEMs, strategic technology suppliers and end users working throughout the cloud market.

The body aims to "define the next generation of cloud architecture" as well as enable "ease of use with comprehensive cloud management and tools".

Chairman Eli Karpilovski said the CAC will play an important role in building efficient cloud services.

He said: "The CAC has been established by industry leaders to develop a cloud specification and best practices for building the most efficient cloud infrastructures. This is critical for vendors as well as for the cloud users."

Vendor Sugon is one of the founding members of the council, and its vice president of research and development said joining the CAC is an important benchmark.

"Cloud computing is the future of IT," he said. "The foundation of the CAC will accelerate the development of cloud computing, which will benefit the end users and the whole industry.

"Sugon is glad to be a founding member and work together with other industry leaders."
