Judge delays Apple/Samsung hearing

iPhone maker's motion to have some Samsung mobile phones banned in the US is set for December court hearing

Apple will now have to wait until December to hear if it can have some Samsung mobile phones banned in the US.

According to the BBC News website, the iPhone maker's legal motion will be heard in court in December, which caused Samsung's share price to rise once more. Originally the hearing was believed to be taking place next month.

Last week, a jury ordered Samsung to pay Apple more than $1bn (£632bn) after it ruled that the vendor had infringed several of Apple's patents, sending Samsung's share price south and wiping $12bn off its market value over the weekend.

In total, Apple wants eight Samsung smartphones banned: the Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T model, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile model, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail.

The firm's latest Galaxy S3 handset is not included in the case.

Samsung is currently riding high in the global mobile phone market rankings despite the legal wranglings, putting it leagues ahead of former leader Nokia and arch rival Apple.
