Proximity poaches Avaya man to strengthen customer service

James Stevenson appointed as operations director as firm continues to pursue aggressive growth

VAR Proximity Communications has snared Avaya business services expert James Stevenson to manage its increasing customer service delivery requirements.

Stevenson takes on the role of operations director as the firm pursues aggressive growth and outperforms market trends.

It was a year of change for the Berkshire-based company in 2011 when it trimmed its portfolio to focus on four key vendors: Avaya, ShoreTel, Aerohive and Teleware.

In the past year, Proximity has employed 14 new staff and opened a regional sales and support office in Birmingham.

In a statement on the latest appointment, Darren Boyce, chief executive of Proximity, said: "It has been well reported that we have seen excellent growth in the past 12 months and we see no reason for that healthy expansion not to continue.

"What we are very mindful of, however, is that through that growth we continue to meet – and where possible exceed – customer expectations when it comes to design, solution build customer service, delivery and ongoing maintenance and management.

"James' experience in the industry, especially his Avaya business capabilities, will enable us to further enhance our delivery and support offering.”

Stevenson added: “My experience in product development and delivery, in addition to previous strategic business roles and my consultancy skills, enables me to approach customer needs in a holistic way.

"I understand the technology needs of our customers, but I also approach technology solutions considering the impact on business, directly and indirectly; the need for faster ROI; the effects of change and growth; individual staff needs and preferences; sustainability; integration and collaboration.

"Proximity is the right company at the right time for me, as we are both focused on moving operations and services to new levels.”
