Munford leaves Sophos hot seat

Former Symantec boss Kris Hagerman to step into security vendor's top role

Security vendor Sophos has appointed Kris Hagerman as its new chief executive, as former boss Steve Munford takes on the role of non-executive chairman.

Hagerman, former datacentre management president at Symantec and chief executive of Corel Corporation, takes on his new role at Sophos immediately.

Sophos' annual bookings have tripled to $400m (£252m) since Munford took the reins in 2006. He will return to his native Canada on vacating the hot seat.

The pair is set to work closely together in their new roles at the vendor, which has 100 million users across 150 countries.

Hagerman said: "Sophos has a winning strategy, a highly talented team and world-class products that provide an exciting opportunity to expand our share of the growing IT security industry."

Munford added: "I look forward to working closely with Kris and the board as we continue to build on Sophos' global success.

"I am proud of our team's accomplishments over the past seven years as we have transformed Sophos from an anti-virus vendor to a strategic provider of complete security."
