Irish cloud support specialist launches in Sheffield

Yorkshire becomes home to start-up's first international office

Irish cloud support start-up Auxilion has set up shop in the UK, opening a Sheffield office.

Auxilion, a subsidiary of Dublin's IT Alliance Group, was launched in June with a €1m (£796,000) cash injection. It initially employed 10 people in Ireland, which Sheffield City Council says will be boosted to 25 spread across its custom-built Dublin contact centre and its new Sheffield location, The Workstation.

Eleanor Graham, chief operating officer of Auxilion, said in the council announcement that the city was an "obvious choice" when selecting a UK base for the growing company.

"Sheffield is really making a name for itself as a technology hub. There are already a number of major tech companies located here, and even more small and start-up companies in the enterprise and innovation centres around the city. The tech sector is really thriving," Graham was quoted as saying.

Auxilion will target Irish and international SMBs which require cloud computing support, the company said in its launch release.

Auxilion operates independently of IT Alliance Group, which has 400 staff and a €20m global IT outsourcing operation. "As well as operating as an independent brand, Auxilion will support the cloud computing needs of the IT Alliance Group, the firm said in its June launch announcement.

Sheffield City Council markets the area to investors and businesses via its Creative Sheffield initiative, with a view to fostering the competitiveness of the region's business base, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
