Brocade appoints Cisco veteran David Meyer as CTO

Vendor's new tech chief to drive cloud play

Brocade has appointed Cisco veteran David Meyer as its new chief technology officer and chief scientist to push the firm's cloud agenda.

Meyer, who previously spent 15 years in the role of distinguished scientist at Cisco, is charged with shaping Brocade's cloud networking, advanced routing and application delivery strategy.

He will work with tier-one service providers, Web 2.0 content providers and cloud hosting providers in the role, which he took on earlier this month.

In August, Brocade's chief executive Michael Klayko announced his departure from the firm and the search for his replacement continues.

Meyer said that he hopes the firm will keep growing in what he describes as a "hotly contested" industry.

"The networking industry is undergoing an evolutionary period unlike any we have recently seen. The companies that are going to emerge victorious are those with the right combination of networking expertise, technology vision and business smarts," he said.

"With its heritage for driving continued innovation, I believe that Brocade is well positioned to achieve growth within the hotly contested service provider networking market."
