Brocade snaps up Vyatta for SDN success
Vendor claims acquisition for an undisclosed sum will make it an SDN leader
Brocade is aiming to become a leader in software-defined networking (SDN) following its acquisition of Vyatta.
The vendor claims that the California-based firm's OS is set to enhance its SDN and cloud offerings, giving it new market potential in public cloud and managed services.
The all-cash deal for an undisclosed sum is expected to close by the end of the calendar year.
Brocade hopes the acquisition will help it offer end-to-end networking infrastructure to its customers, and its outgoing chief executive Mike Klayko said it will aid the firm's plans to be an industry leader.
"We are now bolstering these build-and-partner efforts with this strategic acquisition with the goal of being the innovation and thought leader in the software networking category," he added.
Once complete, Vyatta will slot into Brocade's Software Networking Business Unit under the vendor's vice president for its software networking group, Ken Cheng.
He said: "The Vyatta acquisition brings in considerably more software networking technology and expertise to Brocade.
"We believe software networking to be a critical component in the next phase of network virtualisation as enterprises are becoming increasingly virtualised and actively moving workloads to the cloud."
