Guatemalan authorities arrest John McAfee

Police plan to return vendor founder to Belize after seizing him for illegal border crossing

John McAfee has been arrested in Guatemala for illegally entering the country, according to a report in the Guardian.

The former security chief was collared by police and Interpol at the Intercontinental hotel in Guatemala City. He has been on the run for several weeks following reports the Belizean authorities wanted to quiz him regarding the killing of his neighbour Gregory Faull.

Guatemalan interior minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla claimed his country will seek to kick McAfee out, with government spokesman Francisco Cuevas claiming that the IT millionaire will be returned to Belize this morning. McAfee's legal team is reportedly seeking an injunction for his release.

The former vendor boss (pictured) has claimed he is being victimised by corrupt officials in the Central American country, where he has resided for four years. He reportedly believes he may be killed if authorities in Belize get their hands on him, but the prime minister of the country has labelled McAfee "bonkers" for making such claims.

Belizean polices have previously indicated that the security entrepreneur is a "person of interest", rather than the lead suspect in the Faull investigation. McAfee meanwhile told US TV network NBC that he is offering a $25,000 (£15,500) reward to anyone who can bring to justice those responsible for the slaying.
