Juniper accumulates Accumuli assets
Security VAR sells certain assets from Webscreen Systems to vendor for $10m
Security specialist Accumuli has flogged certain assets from its subsidiary Webscreen Systems to networking giant Juniper Networks for $10m (£6.4m).
The agreement, effective from today, includes the disposal of the trade and assets of WSL, which consists of the firm’s DDoS mitigation software. Accumuli will remain a Webscreen reseller.
Webscreen was previously a subsidiary of rival security reseller Boxing Orange, which itself was acquired by Accumuli in April 2011. It has four employees – three in technical and one in sales and management, who will all be transferred to Juniper.
Gavin Lyons, chief executive of Accumuli, said: “We are delighted that WSL’s superior technology will become part of Juniper’s global portfolio and help many organisations protect themselves against DDoS attacks.
“Juniper’s reputation, channels to market and extensive experience make it the ideal home for WSL, and I have no doubt it will be a successful relationship. Accumuli’s decision to divest the WSL business will allow the company to focus on its core strategy and competencies. Accumuli is an independent specialist in IT security that is focused on expanding the three pillars of our business – technology, professional services and managed services.
“Our goal is to help organisations secure their business against the ever-increasing threat landscape in the most cost-effective way. The scale and variety of threats continues to grow at a substantial pace and it is our responsibility to bring together complementary technology solutions and expert services to safeguard our customers’ infrastructure and data.”
Lyons added: “The sale of WSL assets gives us substantial resources to continue growing our market share in the IT security sector by concentrating on what we are good at; identifying and being highly proficient in best-of-breed security technologies, expanding on our managed security services portfolio, building security intelligence platforms and creating complementary intellectual property along the way.”
David Koretz, vice president of counter security at Juniper Networks, said: “The acquisition of the Webscreen DDoS capability gives Juniper another asset to help protect our customers and their datacentres. Webscreen’s unique, fully automated DDoS protection system assists in keeping our customers' websites and web applications highly available."
