Macmillan thanks generosity of 2012 Channel Awards attendees
CRN is pleased to hand over a cheque for £4,000 to leading cancer charity thanks to donations and auction on the night
The 2012 Channel Awards might seem a distant memory now, but the generosity of the channel lives on.
CRN publisher Alan Loader and editor Sara Yirrell were able to present a cheque for an impressive £4,000 to Macmillan fundraising manager Kate Macauley today, all thanks to donations given and pledged on the night in November.
Speaking to CRN, Macauley said: "This type of fundraising is very important to us – 889 people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK and over two million people are living with and beyond cancer. This is set to rise to four million by 2030.
"Macmillan covers the entire cancer journey from diagnosis, right through to survivorship, and sadly in some cases to palliative care.
"There is a whole range of things we do with these much-needed funds – we work very much on a local basis and look at what is needed in certain areas.
"Because we cover the entire journey and numbers are rising so quickly, every penny counts so thanks to all those who donated."
Yirrell added: "It was a real pleasure to be able to give this money to Macmillan on behalf of the channel.
"This charity is especially close to my heart and others on the CRN team, and the work Macmillan does to help people suffering with this awful disease is invaluable.
"Thanks very much to everyone who bid for an auction prize on the night or gave a donation – it is very much appreciated."
