Becrypt adds Wick Hill to distributor line-up

Appointment coincides with launch of VDI and tablet offerings

Endpoint security vendor Becrypt has appointed Wick Hill as its third UK distributor as it pushes into the VDI and mobile device markets.

Wick Hill will work alongside incumbents Exclusive Networks and Sigma, who service about 25-30 active resellers.

UK-based Becrypt also has historic direct relationships with three resellers - Centerprise, SBL and Sapphire - that supply its base of ‘top-secret' clients in central government and the MoD.

The appointment coincides with the launch of two new Becrypt products: a VDI management platform dubbed tVolution; and a Windows 8 version of its full-disk encryption solution aimed squarely at the tablet space.

Talking to CRN, Becrypt chief executive Bernard Parsons, vowed that Wick Hill would complement rather than compete with the vendor's existing channels.

"This is about incremental growth for us," Parsons said. "There is real value Wick Hill can add around the growth in adoption of mobile devices and virtualised technologies."

Wick Hill chairman Ian Kilpatrick (pictured) said Becrypt's solutions would allow resellers to address customer pain points as they roll out tablets and VDI.

"Mobile devices are causing a lot of data access to go outside organisations' traditional boundaries and that is only going to escalate," he said.

"VDI enables people to save money but not to deal with the security threats thrown up by that."

Parsons stressed that Becrypt's solutions are CESG accredited, a mandatory requirement for VARs bidding on MoD and central government deals.

"Even for organisations where CESG is not mandatory, it gives them comfort knowing it is CESG accredited and a badge to present to the ICO [Information Commissioner's Office] to say they have made all reasonable effort to secure their data," he said.

Founded in 2001, Becrypt draws 80 per cent of its sales from the UK but is expanding into the US federal government market, said Parsons.

"The problems we solve and our unique differentiators are also unique differentiators in the US, which has allowed us to get our foot in the door in some fairly prestigious accounts," he said.
