Veeam launches deeper into cloud with rental licensing

Software vendor announces new EMEA channel programme to boost sales of VMware add-ons

VMware software specialist Veeam Software has rolled out a cloud services partner programme including flexible "rental" style licences.

According to the vendor, rental licensing deals should be ideal for partners engaged in hosting, telecoms or cloud services with an à la carte or one-time service sales model.

Gilles Pommier (pictured), EMEA channel director at Veeam, said the rental-style licences would be invoiced per virtual machine (VM) and should increase the ability of hosting and cloud services partners to design different services while reducing their fixed-asset costs.

"This new commitment-based rental model has been added to the existing permanent licence and monthly invoicing per VM models," he said. "It will also allow them to expand their positioning in the cloud community."

The programme's features include:
* Rental licence with volume commitment, tailored to medium and large-sized hosting providers. Based on a monthly commitment to a volume of consumption for one or several Veeam offerings in a one-year period
* Additional discounts and funding for local marketing and sales initiatives, based on partner commitment

The announcement follows the release of vCloud Director API, an extension to Veeam's VMware vCloud Director backup and restore app last month. The new channel programme was available to Veeam's VCP partners through approved distributors from February.
