EVault hopes freebies will boost channel sales

Backup vendor offers customers 100GB free cloud storage in the hope of generating further leads for UK partners

Backup vendor EVault has claimed that many of its resellers could be better off following the launch of its new channel lead generation campaign.

The new "freemium" scheme will see the vendor offer 100GB worth of free cloud storage for one Windows file server, in the hope it will encourage more new customers to come on board and buy into further products through their VARs thereafter.

The scheme is driven entirely through EVault's army of reseller partners, through which all the vendor's business is transacted. The firm divides its channel into cloud resellers and cloud service providers, but claims that both can be a part of the scheme.

Aad Dekkers, Seagate-owned EVault's marketing manager, said he was confident the scheme will generate more business for its channel.

"In a real-life environment, most businesses need more [than 100GB] and all the additional data they need is something we can deliver through our partners. As the offer is for a single server, most businesses have demand for more, as well as in more locations too," he added.

"Some customers may require disaster recovery and end-point protection and so on; this sets a basis for leads in the channel and makes the end user more familiar with our platform. In most cases, this will deliver leads for our channel community, and this is our responsibility every day."

The scheme was previously launched in the US last December for a limited time, and EVault claimed that popular demand saw the pilot become a long-term incentive in the region, and led to its launch in EMEA.

The deal offers end users the 100GB of cloud storage on top of protection for one Windows file server, recovery, encryption and a variety of online support.
