Wireless VAR WDSi completes Anfield rollout

London VAR deploys Xirrus arrays to give fans at iconic Liverpool home match day Wi-Fi access

Wireless specialist VAR WDSi Group has fitted Liverpool Football Club's Anfield stadium (pictured) with technology allowing fans to access Wi-Fi connectivity on match days.

Wireless arrays from vendor Xirrus have initially been deployed across the ground's Centenary Stand, which has seating for 12,000 supporters, as well as corporate facilities. The technology will be in action for the first time during this Sunday's home game against West Ham.

Andrew Robinson, head of digital media and technology at Liverpool, said: "Running our own data network based on Xirrus technology means we can provide our fans with a dedicated, robust and high-quality experience. The added reliability and performance of high-capacity Wi-Fi over 3G connections will encourage our fans to use social networks such as Twitter and Facebook to share their experiences with fans unable to make it to the game."

Andrew Ramshaw, chief operating officer at central London-based WDSi, added: "WDSi has significant experience with designing and deploying high-performance Wi-Fi networks and robust end-to-end digital solutions at stadiums around the world."
