Revenue up at e-tailer Scan Computers

Bolton-based firm plans on opening eBay outlet this year

E-tailer Scan Computers saw revenue rise but profits fall in its last financial year.

The Bolton-based firm, which punts hardware, audio, gaming, graphics and digital signage equipment on its Scan.co.uk website, posted revenue of £58.9m for its fiscal year to 30 June 2012, up six per cent on 2011.

Operating profit, meanwhile, fell by 13 per cent to £800,000 as net profits slipped by 27 per cent to £568,000.

"The company has continued to refine its reputation as a locally and nationally renowned seller of computer equipment while generating further sales growth, despite the competitive nature of the market in which it operates," Scan Computers said in its annual accounts filings.

Although Scan's average headcount fell from 145 to 138 year on year, staff costs rose from £2.86m to £3.1m.

Turnover per employee rose significantly year on year from £384,000 to £427,000.

"The directors anticipate an increase in the general level of activity in the forthcoming year, with the scheduled opening of an eBay online sales outlet, accompanied by the continued growth of the bespoke system building department," it added.
